Win tickets to Liam Byrne (viols) & Jonas Nordberg (lutes) Shadows of Sarabandes at York’s NCEM.
Celebrate European Day of Early Music as two of the brightest young stars in the early music world bring the music of 17th Century France to York. On March 21, Liam Byrne (viols) & Jonas Nordberg (lutes) join forces at York’s exceptionally lovely NCEM (The National Centre for Early Music) for a special concert called Shadows of Sarabandes and Northern Soul is excited to have three pairs of tickets to offer.
Whether he’s collaborating with a wide variety of musicians from Damon Albarn to Emma Kirkby or the Appalachian fiddler Cleek Schrey, devising baroque performance installations for the Victoria & Albert museum, or creating new electronic works with Icelandic composer Valgeir Sigurðsson, Byrne spends most of his time playing either extremely old or very new music on the viol. The Swedish lute player Jonas Nordberg, he says, “is one of my all-time favourite musicians to play with” and this special concert, broadcast live on BBC Radio Three, finds the duo collaborating on music by Marais & de Visee.
To be in with a chance of winning one of three pairs of tickets, all you have to do is sign up to the Northern Soul newsletter (details of how to do this are on the right-hand side of the page) and send an email to emma@northernsoul.me.uk with the title ‘Shadows of Sarabandes’.
