Morecambe marked the beginning of the festive season with a beautiful community celebration.
On December 4, 2021, More Music, a music and charity based in the West End of Morecambe, and Creative West End collaborated to produce a day of Christmas joy that included the West End Christmas market and the Winter Lantern Festival.
At 6pm, the lantern procession assembled outside More Music and set off with musical accompaniment through the residential streets of the West End. The lanterns were made of paper and willow and had been created in workshops at local schools and in community sessions. Back at More Music, the lanterns were displayed around the garden behind the building and people were invited to round off the day with a bout of joyful communal singing.
For the past 18 years, the Winter Lantern Festival has been a significant community celebration for Morecambe’s West End.
