In the latest instalment of Painting the North, Ant Cosgrove, the man behind The Northern Art Page on Facebook, shares striking works of art, sketches and drawings from around The North of England. As the weeks progress, Ant will bring you his image or exhibition of the week from the popular social media page. This week it’s the 1st Year Anniversary Exhibition at Post Fine Art in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

Ant says: “An art gallery in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, is celebrating its first anniversary with a special exhibition featuring original works by L.S. Lowry, Peter Brook and many other established northern artists.  Tadcaster, a town closely associated with the brewing industry due to the quality and accessibility of the local water supply (home of three breweries, including John Smith’s), now has its own Modern British Art Gallery, Post Fine Art.

It took just over a year to reconstruct and fit out the old stone-built post office for use as a gallery.  Since opening, the owners, Jeremy, Rebecca & Tom, have introduced some high-profile artwork into the little market town and this anniversary exhibition features work by 7 new artists to the gallery including, Peter Stanaway, Shaun Smyth, Dave Hartley, Kevin Haynes & Richard Clare.

The gallery shows works by well-known British artists, including Ken Howard, Maggi Hambling, John Bratby as well as leading northern painters like Theodore Major, Geoffrey Key and Harold Riley, as well as a chance to view a number of original pieces by L.S. Lowry.

The exhibition launches with a preview on October 19 at 7pm and continues to November 3, 2018  There are various promotions on during the event including inviting customers to, “Talk to me about the price”, which is a pretty unique way in which purchasers can discuss prices before a sale.  They are also offering a painting prize to one visitor during the exhibition.”
