Less than a year after reopening, The Whitaker in Rossendale continues to showcase the best emerging and established contemporary artists locally, nationally and internationally in its visual arts programme.

Opening on February 10, 2022 is Ruth Murray’s Everything is Green and Harry Grundy’s Edge Collection. Everything is Green will run until April 6, 2022 and Edge Collection will run until April 9.

Murray is a Manchester-based artist whose work reflects a deep interest in exploring portraiture, identity, and the presence of human concerns in natural settings and the social landscape.  Everything is Green is an exhibition named after a David Foster Wallace short story, a story of loss and self-deception, of standing at the kitchen window, contemplating the view.

Born in 1993, Grundy is a West Yorkshire-based artist making art for the Anthropocene epoch, which is conceptual, performative and multidisciplinary. Edge Collection is his first solo show. Bringing together nine works of sculpture, photography and drawing, Edge Collection explores the brutal and complex human relationship with this phenomenal world.

Ruth Murray will also host an Artist Talk at The Whitaker on March 10 at 7pm. Murray will share her process through a succession of paintings and other images and discuss how these works have evolved through time and what inspired her to make them.
