Storytelling is an important tool.

We can learn so much, about ourselves and the world around us, simply by listening to the lives and experiences of others. A new exhibition, at Manchester’s Central Library, explores the lives of some of the Armenian diaspora, one of the world’s oldest civilisations, who have been making the North West their home since the mid-19th century.

15 people, aged from 22 to 66, have recorded oral histories interviews where they talk candidly about their lives, experiences, family stories and memories. The portraits were taken at locations chosen by the interviewees, by photographers Robert Binder and Darren Bullock.

The free exhibition includes photographic portraits of and interviews with first-to-fourth generation Armenians who have settled in the area, along with historical images of Greater Manchester’s Armenian families.

Armenian Heritage in the North West is on at Central Library basement until June 16, 2019
