In the latest instalment of Painting the North, Ant Cosgrove, the man behind The Northern Art Page on Facebook, shares striking works of art, sketches and drawings from around The North of England. As the weeks progress, Ant will bring you his image or exhibition of the week from the popular social media page. This week it’s an auction of a collection of works by the legendary Manchester artist and gallerist, Colin Jellicoe.
Ant says: “A collection of works by the legendary Manchester artist and gallerist, Colin Jellicoe is due to auction on October 2, 2018. Colin died earlier this year aged 75 and the works, most of which were stored away in the gallery for many years, are being sold to raise funds for a planned refurbishment of Capes Dunn in Heaton Mersey.
“The gallery is due to be re-opened in 2019 as a space for hire where artists can pay a nominal fee to rent the gallery and host their own exhibitions. This generous project is the brainchild of Simon Behar, the owner of the Portland Street based building in Manchester which has housed the Colin Jellicoe Gallery for 50 years. Simon wants to continue the legacy of this now iconic gallery in which his own late farther, Alan Behar, was an original founder alongside Colin.”
